The Motor Insurance Bureau estimates that about 25,000 learner drivers have invalid car insurance. The consequences are extremely serious. The offence of driving without insurance carries obligatory endorsement of your driving licence with a minimum of 6 penalty points.
As a learner driver or a newly qualified driver (which lasts for two years from the date you pass your driving test) if you accumulate 6 or more penalty points, the DVLA will automatically revoke your driving licence. You will then need to start from the beginning, apply for a new provisional licence and retake and pass both the theory and practical driving tests.
